For the first time since October I have completely shaved my beard, and it remains clearly evident when I step outside: something just doesn’t feel right when the wind hits my face.

This change came about last night as I toiled away at one project or another and the prickly sensation on my face just became irritating – maybe it’s the change in the weather outside or something, but it was just starting to get wayyyyyy too uncomfortable. So I shaved the sucker….

At the time I might have thought it would make me feel more awake and able to work…. Men in Black’s head of operations, Zed (Rip Torn), talks about how their agency operates on Centaurian time: a standard thirty-seven hour day. If only that were a feasible possibility in my case; I’d probably accomplish a hell of lot more.

Thus perhaps like the mighty Samson my hair too provided power – in this case the power to continue staring at a computer screen for countless hours on end to perform unrelenting work (there might be a comparison there to baseball/football players occasionally smearing black paint under their eyes to help eliminate sun glare, and my beard performing the same function with a computer screen glare)

I’ve spent the majority of my spare time over the past month working on the paging template and element library system for t.o.night’s graphic redesign which launched with issue 100 (Feb. 9th 2010). It’s nearing completion as I’ve finally managed to get most of the nearly 100 templates cleaned up and ready to go, so I’m hoping by Monday it’ll be completed and out of my hair – you’ll be able to read about it in the art & design section here at SFP around that time, though I think the photo above gives a fairly decent illustration in the interim of what I was trying to accomplish.

I’ve also been talking with a few of my friends from the bar where I work a couple days a week about starting a cover band, as I’ve been craving some stage time more and more as of late. Thus far though that hasn’t come to fruition since their schedules are nearly as busy as mine and it seems to be our misfortune that our schedules just don’t seem to mesh in the downtime.

Dave finished his internship a few weeks ago with the market research company so he’s been pushing a lot more lately to get HUD up and running again; but with my time being what it is I still haven’t finished the rebrand and redesign there either. When I get in at the end of the day it just gets to the point lately where I just want to watch a few episodes of something and pass out.

The Tridia EP still sits unfinished, though I’ve been spending a lot of spare time working on branding and such so I can drop the damn thing like a bomb when it’s finished. I’m hoping once I get the t.o.night and HUD stuff out of the way I can dedicate some real time to completing it.

Of final mention though is the brief outline for a short film feature that I scrawled down on a sheet of notepad paper at the bar Monday night – I was hoping to tackle something like this sometime soon (since I’ll have finished paying off Dave for the camera as of tomorrow), so it was a fantastic epiphany when the idea popped into my head while standing at the counter, quickly trying to consume a meal before more customers showed up.

More on all this later though. Time now for me to prep the t.o.night pages for tomorrow and go to bed…. so I can get up at 3:00am….. :(
