Intro

In 2018, Stratasfear was contracted by Hamilton-based surveying company Groma Technical Services to build out a new website showcasing their services and clients while also helping to advocate for their newly-established branching into high-end drone surveying.

The Brand

After being around for nearly a decade, Groma’s brand was well-established and their logo mark well-recognized in the industry: a basic wordmark stack accompanied by a stylized x-shaped surveying tool from antiquity called a “groma” set into a circle. We expanded on their colour palette, opting to use much more white than their original site had offered – both to help with text legibility as well as to help the brand’s burgundy tone act like more of an accent. We added an additional design flourish with a vector forestscape graphic set into the footer with the logo hover above the treeline – much like the company’s drones while in operation.

The Website

Groma needed a basic multipage website with the standard Homepage, About, and Contact pages, alongside a custom “services” system for future expansion to create cross-linking capabilities between services and news/blog articles, and a client system that would allow for an integrated client roll on the homepage that would link back to each client’s respective website.

Their original website was a basic multipage in burgundy, black, and white tones – we enhanced this by implementing a black-to-burgundy diagonal gradient overlay to the company’s robust photo library which would help to add an additional branding layer to the website’s visuals.

The key add-on we included on the website was an easy-to-manage case study system that would allow Groma’s employees to add short survey case studies about completed projects to the website. This would cross-link with the client system for including logos/client links, while also allow Groma to add photos and/or videos in a carousel/pop-up lightbox combination.
