While The Indie Machine came close to having 10 showcases for September 2012, I thankfully only had to construct posters for four of them as the others were constructed either by headlining bands or by our co-promoters on certain bills.
The posters I did construct however had some interesting stuff at play – the first was for our premiere booking at The Velvet Underground; we were trying to get a three-band bill together with rock acts Champion Lover and Summerbees joined by fellow Masuda brother featuring band LIPP but ultimately the scheduling didn’t work out. For the poster I played with some chocolate brown and golden yellows (kinda bee-like) and a circle motif that I thought was kind of neat.
The second poster was a quick one for Hamilton folk man Wax Mannequin which was just a re-work from something he had already constructed for his album release show. This poster was also our first booking at The Piston, so that was cool.
This month also marked the birth of our friend Dan Wolovick’s (Two Way Monologues) son Ezra, so we took over a spot on the yearly Pitter Patter Festival at Rancho Relaxo to help out – I went for a kind of classic New York City taxi cab theme, with the poster itself essentially acting as the logo/ad space on the cab door.
The last poster was a hold-over from August’s mars-themed number, as Viva Mars were playing the bill alongside Erik Lind & The Orchard it ended up inspiring a kind of space-like garden piece (perhaps that one piece of fruit fell from the tree due to a Tremor… who knows).
