BED BUGS!!!!!!
I have been dealing with the aftermath of this annoying little pest for the duration of the month of January. No one knows where they came from or who brought the little hitchhikers home, but I’m out a pricy bed and not happy :'(
and cold…. with a cold…. :*(
that was a frozen tear….
The common misconception with bed bugs it’s that they’re dirty and thus attracted to dirt. This is incorrect according to the guys who showed up to poison all the little buggers, who told us they’re pretty much just like lice except with the lifespan of a cockroach (not the resilience, mind you). They like really clean people. Unfortunate way things have turned out in the evolution of that creature. Not to say that I wasn’t thrilled to learn that 45 minutes in the dryer on high kills em’, as well as prolonged exposure to sub-zero temperatures – which in a Canadian winter is not exactly difficult to harness.
After the treatment they told us to just go back to living the way we normally do and forget anything has happened. Though I’m starting to feel like we need to bring back DDT in this special case – if the number of cases has multiplied tenfold since the product was banned, it’s time to start putting serious work into that chemical formula to make it street-worthy again.
We haven’t seen one in nearly two weeks, so the pest guy is coming to give us an all-clear inspection at the end of the week. After which I’ll finally be able to buy myself a new bed and stop sleeping on the floor like a vagrant…
… or a really drunk college student who couldn’t make it to the bed and decided to settle for the “let sleeping man lie/sleep where I lie” technique.
In any case, it’ll be nice to get things back to a normal level of crazy in February.
